Octopusbot is a Sydney-based AgTech company using AI, weather and satellite data, combined with thousands of historical datasets, to forecast crop yields, planted areas, protein levels, supply and demand balances, and grain markets.
Our technology is used by growers, agribusinesses, grain buyers, processors, food companies and other organisations to make better decisions months ahead of harvest.
We sell across Australia and are now expanding into Europe and North America. We are seed-funded, with our next funding round in progress.
Why Octopusbot
Octopusbot has grown more than 1.6x this year, with continued growth across customers, products and markets.
We operate in a highly specialised market with no direct competitor offering the same combination of crop forecasting, satellite intelligence and market analytics.
Our technology is already used by leading companies across agriculture and commodity markets, giving you a strong product and customer base to sell from.
We are expanding into Europe and North America, creating opportunities to open new markets, customer segments and partnerships.
As Octopusbot scales, there will be significant opportunities for the right person to grow with the company and take on greater responsibility over time.
You will work closely with the founders and our data science team, with direct exposure to how the product and business evolve.
The role
As our Founding BDM, you will play a key hands-on role in the next stage of Octopusbot’s growth and be responsible for the full sales cycle across our customers and products.
You will build pipeline, prospect, establish relationships with potential customers, run discovery and demos, manage trials, follow up opportunities, negotiate, close deals and grow existing accounts.
You will work closely with the CEO, SDR, customer success, data science and onboarding teams. The SDR will support selected parts of the sales process, but you will remain responsible for progressing opportunities and building customer relationships.
We are looking for someone who can build rapport quickly, stay highly organised, learn a technical product fast and continuously work out what is and isn’t working in the sales process.
What you will actually do
1. Build and manage your pipeline
Build and maintain a healthy pipeline across all Octopusbot customer types and contribute to the company’s quarterly new-revenue targets.
Maintain an accurate sales forecast and weekly pipeline update. Every open deal carries a dated next step.
Keep HubSpot as the single source of truth: contacts, opportunities, next steps and deal hygiene. If it isn’t in the CRM it didn’t happen.
Work closely with the SDR to ensure prospecting activity consistently translates into qualified opportunities.
2. Sell and close across all customer types
Prospect and build relationships with growers, agronomists, farm managers, grain buyers, processors, feed and food manufacturers, brokers, financial institutions and other potential customers.
Run discovery and product demonstrations, quickly understand what matters to each customer and explain the value of a technical data product simply.
Manage opportunities through the full sales cycle, including structured trials, check-ins, trial reviews, proposals, pricing, contracts and onboarding handoff.
Progress opportunities from straightforward accounts through to enterprise and multi-site deals involving multiple stakeholders, procurement, pricing conversations and negotiation.
Identify new customer segments and use cases and develop the right value proposition for them.
3. Grow existing customers
Own renewals and expansion across the customer base, identifying opportunities to add products, regions, users, modules or services based on each customer’s needs.
Build strong relationships with existing customers and maintain a clear view of account health, next moves and expansion opportunities.
Work with customer success and onboarding to ensure customers are getting value from the product.
Use customer conversations to identify product feedback, new opportunities and areas where Octopusbot can improve.
4. Build and refine our go-to-market approach
Help identify the customer segments, use cases and messages generating the strongest commercial opportunities.
Build and refresh target lists by ICP and territory using Apollo, HubSpot, event lists and industry data.
Build and refine outbound systems rather than simply operate within them: targeting, lists, messaging, email sequences, call cadences, deliverability and tooling.
Develop and improve outbound activity across Australia, Europe and North America and track what is generating meetings, trials and sales.
Use customer conversations, objections, lost opportunities and successful deals to continuously refine targeting, messaging and the sales process.
Test new approaches, use data to understand what is and is not working, and adjust quickly.
5. Improve how we sell
Use and help improve the sales stack, including HubSpot, Apollo, sequencing tools, call recording, contracts and sales tracking.
Keep sales playbooks, messaging, demos and sales material current based on what is actually working with customers.
Identify things that are slowing the sales process down and take the initiative to improve them.
Look for opportunities to automate repetitive work and make the sales process more effective.
6. Partnerships, channels and events
Support existing partner opportunities across agribusiness retailers, machinery companies, farm-management platforms and other channels.
Help identify and test new partnership opportunities.
Represent Octopusbot at grain-industry conferences and selected international events.
The operating rhythm
Daily: prospecting, demos, customer follow-up, progressing open opportunities and keeping the pipeline moving.
Weekly: pipeline and forecast updates, reviewing what is working across calls and messaging, and ensuring outbound activity remains consistent.
Monthly and quarterly: revenue and trial targets, customer expansion opportunities and review of what is working across the go-to-market approach.
Who this suits
Extremely high agency. You see the gap, own it and fix it without being asked. You are autonomous, flexible and data-driven in how you think and decide. This is the trait we value above every other line here.
Hands-on and commercially driven. You have carried a personal sales target and closed deals yourself. You are comfortable prospecting, running demos, following up, negotiating and closing.
You have built or materially refined outbound systems. You understand targeting, lists, sequences, messaging, deliverability and tooling, and can show how you improved what was working.
You can grow existing customers. You have experience with renewals and expansion and can identify where customers can get more value.
Highly organised and honest about pipeline. You keep a clean CRM, follow through on every opportunity, maintain clear next steps and report the real number.
You build rapport quickly. You are comfortable speaking with different types of customers, listen well and quickly understand what matters to them.
Smart and curious. You can learn a technical product quickly, understand how customers use it and ask the right questions to get up to speed fast.
Commercially analytical. You pay attention to what is working and what is not, test different approaches and adapt based on results.
Comfortable selling a technical data product. You can explain complex ideas simply, run a structured trial and move it through to a commercial decision.
Systems-minded. You like a clean CRM, a working forecast and repeatable sales processes. If something is broken or too manual, you improve it.
Relevant industry experience is useful, not mandatory. Experience in B2B sales, SaaS, data products, commodities, agriculture, food, finance or related industries is an advantage, but we care more about what you can do than how many years you have done it. Genuine curiosity about grain markets, agriculture and AI is important.
