Workride

Workride is scaling fast, and we are looking for a Systems & Automation Engineer to join our execution-focused team.

Reporting directly to our Founder, Connor Read, you will take ownership of delivering our roadmap and progressively improving the robustness and scalability of our platform.

Your core objective is simple but critical: convert real-world operational inputs into standardized, repeatable system workflows.

What You Will Actually Do

  • Work through the current development backlog and ship features using our existing low-code stack.
  • Translate ambiguous business outcomes, like customer applications, lease variability, and return/refurbishment processes, into clear workflows and rules.
  • Proactively identify failure modes and design consistent, maintainable edge-case handling rather than relying on one-off hacks.
  • Build out and further automate Xero-linked workflows for employer invoicing, receipt allocation, daily B2B reconciliation, and dunning logic.
  • Further Implement rule-based assessment frameworks for employer/employee onboarding and credit applications.
  • Maintain clear "how it works" documentation, including workflow maps and change logs, so the system does not rely on tribal knowledge.

How You Will Grow With Us

  • 0–12 Months: Your focus will be on roadmap delivery, stabilizing the current stack, taking accountability for bug resolution, and improving the operator experience by reducing manual work.
  • 12+ Months: You will progressively lift standards around scalable architecture, monitoring, and automated QA. You will also explore and implement AI and agentic workflows to handle tasks like support triage and document handling, preparing the platform for massive volume.

We measure success by consistent roadmap delivery, measurable reductions in manual steps, fewer production issues, and rock-solid data integrity.

Here is a breakdown of the skills and mindset we are looking for, focusing purely on capability and approach rather than specific software tools:

Who we’re looking for:

  • A Systems Thinker: You have a knack for taking messy, ambiguous real-world operations (like leasing lifecycles, billing exceptions, or equipment returns) and translating them into clear, repeatable logic and workflows.
  • An Edge-Case Hunter: You don't just build for the "happy path." You proactively spot where a process might break down or get complicated, and you design robust, maintainable solutions rather than relying on quick, one-off hacks.
  • Execution & Process Disciplined: You know how to take a requirement, build it, test it, and release it safely. Just as importantly, you actually write the documentation so the team isn't relying on tribal knowledge to understand how things work.
  • Detail-Oriented with Data: You understand that operational actions have financial consequences. You care deeply about data integrity, ensuring that what happens on the front end perfectly aligns with billing, reconciliation, and audit trails on the back end.
  • An Efficiency Obsessive: You hate high-friction, manual tasks. You are constantly looking for ways to automate steps, reduce cycle times, and improve the day-to-day experience for the operations team.
  • Adaptable & Future-Focused: You are comfortable working in a fast-evolving environment where the roadmap might shift. You can focus on stabilizing and delivering today, while keeping an eye on how to scale the architecture and introduce smarter automation as volume grows.
