Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 11 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

We're also embracing the potential of AI to supercharge our impact—whether that's enhancing the way we detect trends, support our customers, or improve internal workflows. As a company, we're committed to responsibly incorporating AI into how we work and what we build, and we encourage all Aurors to be curious about how AI can elevate their work, regardless of role or function.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Product Designer to join our mobile and integration streams to help frontline retail teams get the information they need in real time, and create high-quality safety events quickly, often under the pressure of a bustling retail environment.

You’ll be dabbling in cutting edge technology, exploring the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning, working out how we amplify our customer’s abilities. Coupled with this, you’ll also be contributing to the next-generation of Auror’s design system (Lumos) that is set to reshape how our customers interact with each other and solve crime collectively.

Alongside the high-performing Mobile and Integrations teams, you’ll also be part of our highly collaborative Product team who are responsible for shipping great products on the daily. From customer understanding through to delivery, you’ll be playing a critical role of designing the experiences we provide our customers, enabling our business to scale and take our software to the world.

At Auror, our Product squad works in streams. We currently have 12 streams and each stream has representatives from each team - this includes Product Manager, Product Design, Quality Assurance and Software Engineering. This way of working encourages and fosters collaboration amongst the team. A trio of Product Manager, Designer and Engineering Lead are responsible for the planning and delivery of the stream’s objectives.

The core responsibilities of this role include:

  • Get under the skin of our users, their jobs, and the world they operate in. Know our competitors like the back of your hand. Turn research and data into sharp, actionable insights that drive design decisions.
  • Stay curious and ahead of the curve, spotting trends, testing ideas, and influencing product strategy. Design with intent and ethics, always mindful of how our work impacts people and communities.
  • Sketch fast, test early, and learn quickly. Use lo-fi methods to validate ideas, then turn the best ones into stunning, high-fidelity designs and prototypes that bring clarity and excitement.
  • Work hand-in-hand with product managers, engineers, and others to make ideas real. Share progress, champion design thinking, and show how great design elevates every part of Auror.
  • Help evolve our design systems and processes. Document decisions, mentor others, and leave the design org stronger than you found it.

This role reports into Carl Rosati, Product Design Lead

A [somewhat reluctant] Brit abroad, I’ve been in NZ for 10+ years now having followed my kiwi wife's desire to move ‘back home’. Having studied design at uni, I started out working in Crime Prevention before following a long-standing pull toward back to design. What began as a freelance illustration and design practice evolved into a move into grown up jobs in the form of Art Direction at Pikpok games, then into Product Design roles with Storypark, Xero, ACC, NZTE and design agencies.

Along the way I’ve collected a mixed bag of skills from UX research and workshop facilitation to LEGO Serious Play and vibe coding leftfield platforms.

At Auror I love that we continue to protect what makes Auror special while still leaving space to challenge as we scale. For our design team, I prioritise finding the right energy, people who connect with our culture while also bringing something new, whether that’s lived experience, a fresh perspective, or a different way of thinking. I’ll take innovation over formality, forgiveness over permission and plain talk over canned professionalism because life’s too short for anything else.

About you

  • Come from a start-up background, but want to flex these skills inside a scale-up
  • Are pragmatic in your approach to design, understanding that you will throw away a lot of work in the pursuit of clarity
  • Can flex between the big picture and small details, being able to identify where to best  spend your energy to unlock the next conversation
  • Can find ways to collect and use data to inform design and prove/disprove assumptions
  • Are across all the latest and greatest technologies and methodologies within the design world and you have a modern style that suits a global enterprise platform
  • Are comfortable identifying high level requirements and building a brief while you run at an opportunity
  • Enjoy variety in your role - you’re happy regardless of whether you’re analyzing data, hosting customer interviews, whipping up rough sketches, finessing pixel-perfect high fidelity designs or pulling together a slide deck
  • Have expertise in common design and user research tools – i.e. Figma and Dovetail
  • Enjoy collaborating with others and have experience working with a range of stakeholders from the CEO to Customer Success and Sales to Engineers and Product Managers
