Auror

At Auror, we’re empowering the retail industry to tackle theft and Organised Retail Crime, a $150 Billion problem globally. It’s high volume crime that’s increasingly organised in nature and is putting people, retailers, and communities at risk every day.

Founded in New Zealand 11 years ago, we’re working with some of the best and largest retailers in the world across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Auror is connecting people and intelligence to reduce crime. We’re using technology for good.

In partnership with our leading retail partners, we need people with the passion, determination, and innovation required to overcome one of the world's largest problems. If you’re looking to make a difference with and for the people dedicated to stopping crime, for good, then we want you on our team.

We're also embracing the potential of AI to supercharge our impact—whether that's enhancing the way we detect trends, support our customers, or improve internal workflows. As a company, we're committed to responsibly incorporating AI into how we work and what we build, and we encourage all Aurors to be curious about how AI can elevate their work, regardless of role or function.

The Role

Auror’s mission is to reduce violent crime in retail stores by 50% over the next 5 years. Our emerging recognition technology solution plays a pivotal role in this mission by enabling real-time alerts about high-risk individuals, empowering store teams to act proactively and enhancing safety for both staff and customers.

Auror Recognition Technology for retailers integrates the crime intelligence in Auror with best-in-class recognition technology to help keep their frontline teams and customers safe and prevent crime in their stores. As adoption scales globally, we are looking for a Sales Engineer to drive successful recognition technology deployments across New Zealand pilots and global customer projects.

This role demands a high level of technical expertise, ideally with an engineering background to lead the end-to-end launch of Auror’s latest innovation to drive safety outcomes in retail. As this is a new product, the Project Lead must be capable of independently driving all aspects of setup, deployment, and in-market troubleshooting.

You will also be responsible for developing essential deployment and support documentation, and may become the primary technical owner of recognition technology in-market, working closely with key engineering stakeholders.

Practically this role will involve:

  • Deep Technical Expertise:
    • Develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end recognition technology solution, including: hardware/software configurations, networking environments, and deployment models.
    • Troubleshoot and support complex installations across varying customer environments (edge, on-prem, cloud).
    • Serve as the primary technical escalation point for technical issues, particularly during the launch phase.
    • Practical knowledge of networking requirements for software running in customer environments
    • Solid understanding of SaaS platforms, databases, and cloud environments
  • Technical pre-sales: Collaborate with the Commercial team to deeply understand customer needs and clearly articulate the technical value proposition of recognition technology, this may include supporting pre-sales conversations, technical deep dives, and RFP responses
  • Project management: Partner with relevant stakeholders to lead the scoping, design, and delivery of recognition technology pilots and rollouts, both for customers with a handful of sites as well as those with thousands of sites. You’ll act as a project manager for these deployments, ensuring successful planning, rollout, and ongoing support.
  • Cross functional collaboration:
    • Partner with Customer Success teams to facilitate seamless customer pilots and rollouts, ensuring the team is equipped for success.
    • Work closely with the engineering team to:
      • Set up monitoring and alerting systems
      • Configure and optimize recognition technology deployments
      • Troubleshoot network and hardware issues
      • Provide technical feedback for product improvements
  • Ownership and communication: Take ownership of technical issues, questions and feedback loops, communicating clearly with relevant teams, providing updates and following through to resolution. This also includes listening actively to customer and stakeholder feedback, identifying patterns and opportunities to inform future iterations of the recognition technology product and deployment approach
  • Documentation: Create and maintain high quality technical documentation that supports deployment, support and trouble shooting. You will need to translate your deep understanding of how recognition technology works within the Auror platform, how the systems interconnect so that we can continue to support the deployment of recognition technology effectively.

About you

  • Experienced rolling out and leading complex technical programmes of work that involves collaborating and liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • You’ve worked in a product organisation, and have recent experience in a growth business.
  • You’re someone that thrives in a lean team environment where you’re operating with autonomy and accountability for delivery of projects.
  • You have exceptional communication, with a strong preference to document over synchronous discussion.
  • You understand commercial drivers and can leverage that business context along with your technical domain knowledge to support business objectives in a meaningful way.
  • You can think strategically, looking outside of the day-to-day projects, to identify opportunities of growth or new opportunities for integrations and partnerships.
  • Experienced picking up new technologies and concepts quickly, as we build new integrations and develop further partnerships you’ll upskill on the go to become the expert on these areas as well
  • You’re curious and excited about how AI tools can enhance technical workflows, improve efficiency, or scale support — and may have already experimented with AI tools for documentation, monitoring, or knowledge management.
  • As this role requires an in-depth understanding of the technology, both with hardware and software, a background in Engineering will be an advantage.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary Range: Depending on level of experience of IC4 (NZD$127,000 - $155,000)
  • Employee share scheme: You’ll own part of a company making a real difference!
  • Flexibility: We are hard-working and outcome focused, but recognise there is more to life than work. We promote a healthy work/life blend.
  • Shorter work weeks (at full pay): Everyone gets Friday afternoons off, so you can start your weekend early, and do more of whatever it is that makes you happy.
  • Health Care Plan: In partnership with Nib, Auror covers 100% of the cost of your individual health insurance plan.
  • Focus on mental and physical health: We understand how vital our health is and have policies to support your wellness, including: Wellness Days,  and up to three expert sessions paid for every year.

  • Personal growth: We support our team to participate in courses, conferences, or events that will help them develop their skills.
