Optimal Workshop

Optimal is a comprehensive user insight platform empowering product teams and UX researchers to make confident, data-driven decisions.

We provide a powerful suite that transforms complex human behaviors into actionable insights. Our platform helps our customers understand how people interact with their digital experiences, revealing the "why" behind user behaviors so they can build products that truly connect with their audience.

We work with industry leaders like Lego, Nike, Netflix and Apple, to bridge the gap between user expectations and product reality.

About the role

As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience and design strategy across our project teams. You’ll collaborate closely with Engineers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and design solutions that meet customer needs.

Your work will span across various types of releases, from conceptualizing and designing new products to implementing small improvements driven by customer feedback.

Outside of our project teams, you’ll also work closely with our Product Marketing team to deliver releases, our customer facing teams, and our Data team to find the best ways to measure and improve what we release.

What you’ll do:

  • Design thoughtful, intuitive experiences that help our customers gain deeper insights
  • Lead design work across the full product development lifecycle - from discovery through to delivery
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and other Designers to shape roadmaps and prioritise work
  • Conduct user research, run usability testing, and turn insights into design solutions
  • Bring ideas to life through wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs
  • Collaborate with Engineering to ensure your designs are implemented smoothly and accurately
  • Work with Product Marketing and Customer teams to support product releases and communicate design decisions
  • Contribute to and evolve our design system to ensure consistency and quality across the platform
  • Champion the voice of the customer and advocate for great UX across the company
  •

What we’re looking for:

  • An experienced Product Designer who is collaborative, curious and considers the customer at every step
  • Someone with the ability to lead design from discovery through to delivery
  • An expert in interaction design, and loves getting into the details of how things work
  • Someone confident in conducting research with customers, and synthesizing their findings into actionable outcomes
  • Someone with experience collaborating with front-end and back-end Engineers to bring projects to life
  • A clear communicator who is great at finding the best way to share ideas with the team and the wider business

Our values and culture

We’re proud of our team culture - we’re collaborative, curious, and committed. Our values guide everything we do:

  • Live In Our Customers’ Shoes - We succeed when our customers do. We deeply understand their experiences - because we live them too.
  • Own It - We show up with curiosity and accountability and we do it at pace. We challenge with care, support each other, and commit fully - because we’re in this to win.
  • Bold & Brave - We are daring, adaptive and always learning. Change doesn’t shake us, it fuels us.
  • In It Together - We lead with kindness, empathy, and respect. We challenge each other with care and compassion. We work hard and celebrate our wins.

What’s in it for you:

  • A culture of curiosity, autonomy, and continuous improvement
  • Flexible working -  while we do have an office in Wellington, NZ, we're remote-friendly and this role can be based anywhere within NZ or Australia (AEDT)
  • A wellness allowance, working from home budget, and genuinely great people to work with
  • The chance to build products that help teams around the world create better experiences
