Responsibilities

Commercial & Corporate

  • Lead / support corporate transactions such as capital raises or listings.
  • Advise on equity matters and coordinate with HR/finance teams regarding employee equity grants.

Payments & Regulatory

  • Provide guidance on payments law and relevant financial services regulations (e.g. AML/CTF, card scheme rules).
  • Monitor evolving fintech/payments legislation, ensuring new products and services meet compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with external counsel where required for cross-border or state-specific regulatory matters.

Product & Commercial

  • Partner with Product teams to embed legal considerations into product development from ideation to launch.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (vendor, partnership, SaaS, license, etc.).
  • Draft or refine terms of service, user agreements, and related policies in collaboration with the Product/Marketing teams.

IP, Privacy & Brand Protection

  • Oversee and provide day-to-day advice on trademarks, branding, domains, copyright, and other IP assets, including registrations and enforcement strategies.
  • Advise on IP, privacy, consumer protection, marketing, and other areas that intersect with product and commercial agreements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, Marketing, and leadership to offer commercially sound legal guidance.
  • Assist with strategic partnerships, vendor negotiations, and major commercial deals.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks across various transactions and corporate initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain legal policies and procedures that align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct legal research, maintain legal templates, and provide training/education to internal teams.
  • Work with our compliance function to ensure seamless connection between legal and regulatory obligations, and compliance processes and protections.

About you

  • 5–7 years PQE (post-qualification experience) admitted in Australia (or equivalent jurisdiction).
  • Demonstrated background in corporate, commercial, and/or payments law.
  • Strong knowledge of contract drafting/negotiation, IP law, privacy, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to balance legal risk with pragmatic business solutions; comfortable acting as a commercial partner to the business.
  • Capable of understanding business objectives and crafting legally compliant strategies to achieve them.
  • Skilled at stakeholder management, and confident working with cross-functional teams, including senior leadership.
  • Adept at identifying legal nuances while maintaining a big-picture perspective.
  • Willingness to handle diverse projects in a fast-paced, high-growth fintech environment.
