We’re looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer (Android) to join our team in Auckland. You will be responsible for developing products specifically designed to optimise retail merchants' workflows through mobile devices.
In this role, you’ll be writing clean, well-tested code, with a focus on maintaining high-quality standards, as well as ensuring that code reviews are completed promptly to prevent delays and that branches are kept small and frequent for efficient progress.
You'll also be offering technical guidance and provide input on decisions that impact other teams or the wider company. The ideal candidate for this role is comfortable taking on technical tasks independently while exploring and recommending new technologies.
You possess excellent communication and stakeholder management skills which effectively foster seamless collaboration across teams.
What you’ll be doing:
- Dive into the development of our widely-used Android inventory management app
- Help the team build great code, deliver new features, conduct code reviews, fix bugs, participate in peer programming and handle incident response.
- Plan the technical approach for our Android platform, collaborating with Product to estimate, define, and establish MVPs.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to help plan upcoming work.
- Using a modern tech stack (Hilt, Room, Jetpack Compose, etc.), build top-tier Android products, contribute to shared libraries, and refine best practices.
And a little bit of…
- Enhancing or introducing new tools and libraries, updating documentation, and continuously improving best practices and processes.
What you need to bring:
We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:
- Extensive experience as a Senior Android Engineer, including learning from both successes and challenges.
- Proven track record in building and distributing apps with a large user base.
- Deep expertise in coding complex Android applications using Kotlin.
- Strong grasp of mobile application design principles, with a focus on creating visually appealing, intuitive UIs and prioritising user experience.
- Willingness to mentor, train and support other engineers within your team.
