Tracksuit
At Tracksuit we provide beautiful, radically affordable, always-on brand tracking which is easy to use compared to traditional methods. We recognise that sounds like a ton of buzzwords for marketers, so what it really means is that we did over 50,000 surveys last month to find out what real humans think and feel about the world’s best brands and their competitors.

Are you our next Principal Engineer?

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to help us track every brand in the world!

You’ll be part of a small, focused team that has high agency and high accountability. Our ideal Principal Engineer can think and act like a founder: someone who can do whatever is needed to solve a business problem. This opportunity is great for a “zero-to-one” style engineer: someone who can start something from scratch and effectively build a new business within Tracksuit, and that business is finding commercially viable ways to find more survey respondents.

Tracksuit’s goal is to get brand data into every boardroom. To do that, we need to scale our ability to find people to answer surveys about brand.

Please note — while we have listed this role as being based in our Sydney office, we are also open to Auckland applicants and this person working from our NZ office. We are open to considering people who are keen to relocate from NZ to Sydney; you will need the legal right to work permanently in AUS.

As our Principal Engineer you’ll be responsible for scaling our survey sampling: the heart of the Tracksuit product. This will involve:
    • Building a strategy to integrate with our survey panels
    • Thinking like a founder: being commercial, entrepreneurial, and doing whatever is needed to acquire more survey sample
    • Leading the implementation of those integrations
    • Building infrastructure
    • Running experiments to validate the quality and reliability of data
    • Automating data cleaning and monitoring processes
    • Leading the engineering needs required to launch new survey products to drive acquisition and retention
This role is exciting because:
    • You’re working on some of the most impactful projects in the company: You’ll be solving a problem that’s core to our ability to scale and retain product market fit.
    • You’ll have high agency to design the technical solutions that work: You’ll be responsible for architecting and designing scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
    • You’re focused on business outcomes: You’re not just shipping features. You’re working in a small team to drive an outcome to the business.
    • You get to be experimental: designing experiments, trying new approaches to solve data problems, talking to customers, doing discovery, sitting alongside product and data science, and implementing solutions.
    • We don’t have a roadmap dictated to us: you’ll have high-level business goals and outcomes, but it’s up to you to define the problems and solutions.
    • We’re forming a small, tight-knit team to lead our efforts. This position will see you working alongside a talented team made up of a Data Scientist, Senior Product Manager and support from market research experts.
That's the role, so who are you?
    • 5+ years experience working in a similar role and be a true polyglot programmer, with a strong proficiency in Typescript and at least one other modern programming language.
    • Experience with the following technologies would be beneficial: Cloud platforms (e.g AWS, GCP or Azure), Infrastructure as code, Serverless architecture and tools such as Github, Linear, and Retool
    • Is product-minded: able to focus on business outcomes and engage in discovery, not just implementation. Is able to think commercially and strategically. You are not dogmatic on coding principals, and know when its the right time and wrong time to incur technical debt.
    • Can lead others: Is able to communicate with internal team members and customers. Is able to shape a strategy and prioritise work.
    • Is an expert programmer: You operate as a thought leader and expert in multiple programming languages, and can create best practise architectures that allow rapid iteration and value creation; Has extensive experience and expertise in designing, building, deploying and operating complex systems.
    • Is kind: This is such a collaborative role that we ultimately want a great, kind human.
$180,000 - $210,000 a year
