We're looking for a Senior UX / Product Designer who understands music production techniques and or DJing, to help us design products loved by producers like Timbaland and Disclosure.

Serato is one of the world leaders in audio software for professional DJs and musicians. Artists such as Major Lazer, Disclosure, Questlove and Timbaland regularly use and love our products. We are based in central Auckland.

About the role

We are currently looking for a highly organised and collaborative Senior User Experience or Product Designer, to join our team. This is a hands-on role to help Serato research, design and test our world leading software products, and website. Working closely with the Lead Product Designer, Product UI Designers, Web/Experience Designers and Product Owners, your role is to help the team understand our users, design the right thing and then design the thing, right. You will mainly be working on new features for our complex existing products, this is not a 0-1 product design role.

You will be working on our flagship products Serato DJ and our newer production tools Serato Studio and Serato Sample also our website, account and payment platform.

As our Senior UX Designer you will be expected to drive and oversee activities such as:

  • Identifying design problems and working with the team to devise solutions through prototyping.
  • Planning and implementing user research, design research (prototype testing) and usability testing.
  • Documenting and presenting research findings through reports, presentations or workshops.
  • Translating concepts into user flows, wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes.
  • Build rich interactive prototypes.
  • Researching, analysing and developing user profiles / personas

As a Senior member of the team, we would expect that you are comfortable mentoring and coaching less experienced members, to work collaboratively and be a good team player, to give and receive feedback - you are not a solo artist.

You will employ a strong understanding of UX best practices, self directed research and 'keeping up' on industry trends, and most importantly, be an advocate for UX and design thinking across all Serato business units.

Essential skills for this role:

  • Someone who has worked within a cross discipline design and development team
  • Proficiency in Sketch, Figma or similar prototyping tools
  • Proven experience in conducting usability tests
  • Proven experience in conducting primary research i.e empathy interviews
  • Strong written and presentation skills
  • Experience in planning and managing your own projects
  • Experience with designing for web and mobile
  • Strong interaction design skills such as wireframing, user flows, customer journey mapping
  • Experience in designing complex apps would be advantageous
  • Javascript skills for building prototypes would be advantageous
  • Knowledge and appreciation of a wide range of music
  • Understanding DJing
  • Understanding of music production techniques
