This is where you come in!

As a Front Software Engineer you’ll be a core member of an agile team, delivering software updates and technical changes to our product(s) that allows our customers to thrive and us to grow as we help them focus on their passion over admin.

You’ll be an expert in working out how to best solve technical challenges and help your team and the technical leadership team where possible with planning and scoping technical strategic work as well as software design and product work. You are able to leverage your experience and new technologies to work out the best way of validating solutions and getting value out to customers quickly.

You’ll work to maintain our software standards and improve on them where appropriate. You’re also able to identify where maintenance and technical debt are a problem (or going to be!) and make sure that these are addressed in the backlog or when we do related work

Primarily you’ll work as part of an agile team to deliver changes as prioritised by the product owner, based on the wider product, engineering or design needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Software development of the core Salonbiz systems and platforms

  • You’ll work on core features and improvements across our software products and systems
  • You’ll be focused on a mix of Angluar and PSQL code but with a stronger influence over our Javascript/Angular stack
  • You’ll contribute to forward planning and strategic planning with the wider technical team
  • You’ll balance new feature work with bug fix work and strategic technical improvement work with guidance and help from the wider technical team

Accountability for delivery and quality of work undertaken

  • As a member of the engineering team you’ll take a personal pride and responsibility in the work you commit to doing, and deliver changes that are of a high quality to our customers
  • You’ll also be responsible for the security and integrity of the software you deliver and work alongside our security team to ensure that best practices are followed at all times.
  • You’re an advocate of agile processes like iterative releases and small experiments

Understanding our release process and practices

  • You'll be familiar with and contribute to our release pipelines and monitoring tools
  • You’ll be comfortable and familiar with our whole software development lifecycle from development through to deployment
  • You’ll be comfortable working with techniques such as feature flagging and partial deploys to enable us to run a quick release cycle and experiments in production
  • You’re able to break up larger epics into smaller deliverables and experiments to help get value to customers

Being a part of the wider Product Engineering team

  • You’ll work closely with product design, product management and product engineering as well as quality assurance to ensure that we’re all working together to deliver our goals

On call responsibilities

  • You may be requested to work as part of our on call team if needed

Skills and experience needed to be successful:

  • 4+ years in a engineering or equivalent role working in agile teams
  • Strong competency and experience Javascript, Angular, React or other equivalent framework
  • You’ll be an agile advocate and know the value in working in small iterations, reducing WIP, learning from experiments and seeing the value in DevOps principles
  • You’ll be experienced with and an advocate for delivery techniques that reduce risk such as feature flagging and partial deploys
  • Team player, must be able to work with others around them
  • Demonstrable strong collaboration skills across product and engineering
  • Demonstrable strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to both translate technical concepts to less technical audiences where required as well as manage expectations of different stakeholders
  • Advocate for and default to collaborative programming techniques
  • Proven track record in coaching and mentoring more junior engineers around them

Nice to Haves

  • Awareness and experience with azure infrastructure
  • Knowledge and experience of PSQL and Oracle
